Accreditation and Registration

I am accredited and registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I am bound by BACP's Code of Ethics and Practice and subject to its current Professional Standards Procedures. 'Accreditation enables clients, employers and colleagues to recognise proven, competent practitioners. This means that the selection of a counsellor or therapist can be based on an informed choice rather than speculation'. The accreditation scheme standard is 'to demonstrate the capacity for independent, competent, ethical practice' (BACP website). As an Accredited and Registered counsellor you can be confident that I am insured, receive regular supervision, and update my skills and knowledge with regular continuing professional development activities.

Qualifications

Experience

I trained with Relate and worked at Leeds Relate for 14 years counselling couples and individuals with a wide range of relationship difficulties. After completing 2½ years basic training and becoming a qualified Relate counsellor I continued with further professional development training on all aspects of the couple relationship.

I worked for 11 years in several GP practices in Leeds as a general counsellor for Relate's NHS surgery counselling team. Patients were referred with issues such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, redundancy, loss and bereavement.

I trained and worked as a telephone counsellor for Relate Direct and a Yorkshire based EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) for several years.

I established my independent counselling practice in 2000.

I also work with several national Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) and national/local companies who provide counselling for employees. I counsel their staff for a wide variety of issues including work based problems, redundancy and stress management.
